I choose the time period of 1690 to compare and contrast with the current time period of media and politics. As stated only once was a news paper published and because the government had not allowed the paper to be published the publisher and his colleague were arrested and every copy of the paper except for one was destroyed. Now in today’s culture because of the laws that have been passed since the 1690 anyone who even thinks to cause such havoc would be arrested. Freedom of speech is fully enforced by the country’s bill of rights, ideas and rights are allowed to be expressed. The public and nation at hand is far more aware and involved in the politics of the leaders. Every move the government chooses to make is out so that the countries is aware, and are not sheep that are blindly following.
I personally feel that the lack of information allows for terrible trouble. Even though the 1690’s perhaps the government at that time felt there was no need for self expression and freedom of your rights to be expressed. One would assume it could have been fear of disorder and trouble. I think as a people we should be allowed to know what’s going on with our government and its obvious that the government would probably prefer the people to not be aware of much of there doings. However it allows the nation who would like to choose smart the proper government to lead us.
Not only has the media come a very long way since 1690, it’s practically created a completely different world for media expression. We have evolved tremendously since one printing of a newspaper. We have many media facets to allow the nation and the world to have access to information. Newspapers, radio, internet news sites, blogs and many others. These options are there to allow each and every person to have there own comfort and access into information.
The media does have a symbiotic relationship with the politic of this country. Many politicians are using the media to help them with their political careers and without this constant media emphasis on themselves it would be very difficult to self promote. Politicians spend thousands of dollars of their own money to display themselves in the media as well as gaining money from supporters to allow for campaigning and defiling there competitions. So politics and media will forever be a use, use situation with all ends benefitting. Any media outlets at the same use their positions to gain better ratings and allow themselves to be money making machines by allowing this symbiotic relationship with politicians.
The time frame I choose I don’t necessarily find any major similarities in the way politics are being displayed in the media. The only one thing I could say is that in other countries a lot of self expression is not allowed. Certain information cannot be just displayed for the world to see; it would cause arrest and anger its government. For instance china is a socialist country which does not allow for freedom of speech. Many women in Middle East countries are not allowed to vote. There are of course tons of differences between the time period I choose and that of the current period. The United States allows for many regions of media to be shared with the country, there is no censorship of the media, on the contrary the media is moving in a very progressive status. The government seems more willing to allow the media to be involved in its affairs to a certain degree and send that feedback to the country.
